** ADOPTED ** Nina
We rescued Nina from the slaughter pipeline and brought her to our rescue to rehabilitate and start to learn to trust people.
Nina has stringhalt, a mobility disability which causes her to have an odd-appearing walk where her back feet step high. It is not painful, does not require medication nor any special care. However, like human disabilities, it not curable. While she has a funny-looking walk, she gets around fine.
Nina is shy of people but slowly learning that people can be good and is treat motivated. Noelle is curious about the world and loves to come up to people to see what’s up.
Nina is halter broke and leads. She does fine living with horses and/or donkeys.
Stats:
Estimated age: 7 years old
Estimated breed: standard donkey
** ADOPTED ** Noelle
Noelle was born December 3, 2023. She is sweet and curious about the world around her.
Stats:
Estimated age: 4 months old
Estimated breed: standard donkey
** ADOPTED ** Pip
Pip is about 16 months old. She was rescued out of the kill pen at about 1 month of age together with her mom, Nina.
When Pip arrived at our farm, she didn’t know if people could be trusted. While in our care, she has learned that not only can people be trusted but they also come bearing treats much of the time. She also loves a good head and/or ear scratch.
She’s friendly, out-going and an in-your-pocket (sometimes literally) kinda girl. While she’d love to hang out with other donkeys, she’s also accustomed to living with horses and gets along with them fine.
Halter broke and leads.
Stats:
Estimated age: 16 months old
Estimated breed: standard donkey
** ADOPTED ** Dolly
Quiet and gentle, this girl would love to find a retirement home where she will be doted on by children and offer some rides to them. We believe she was used as a lead-line horse or in a trail ride string and has done well with riders of all levels at our rescue. She is gentle and sweet and is often found with her lower lip hanging as if she is lost in thought or daydreaming.
Training:
Halter broke and easy to catch, stands for the farrier, lunges. Herd queen (but not a bully) and can be a bit herd bound if she isn’t actively working.
Stats:
Estimated age: 19 years old
Estimated breed: quarter horse type
Height: 15 hands
Brand:
** ADOPTED ** Caspar
Caspar is a 4-year-old AQHA rose grey gelding standing at a charming 15.1 hands. Despite a challenging past, Caspar has a heart of gold and is ready to find a home where he can thrive.
Key Details:
- Age: 4 years
- Breed: AQHA (without papers)
- Color: Rose Grey
- Height: 15.1 hands
Background:
Caspar's journey has not been easy. A former owner started him as a barrel horse, but unfortunately, he suffered a setback—a small bone fracture in his left front leg during training. Heartbreakingly, rather than giving him a chance at rehabilitation, he was sent to the kill pen. It is unknown if he is broke to ride and should be assumed that he isn’t or that he needs re-started.
Training:
Halter broke, easy to catch, stands for the farrier, ties. Treat motivated and we’re having fun training him with positive reinforcement. He’s quick to learn and will make a great project.
Adoption Considerations:
- Caspar's potential as a riding horse is uncertain, and it will be up to his adopter, in consultation with their vet, to determine his long-term status. Our veterinarian conducted X-rays in the summer of 2023. The findings revealed a fracture gap on the articular surface of P1 at the proximal pastern joint. We are happy to share the X-rays taken by my vet with serious inquiries, allowing you to consult with your vet regarding Caspar's future.
Thank you for considering Caspar's journey towards a brighter future. 🐴💕
